The United States has deployed a limited military contingent to Nigeria to bolster ongoing security cooperation between the two nations. This development follows high level discussions held in Rome between leadership from US Africa Command and President Bola Tinubu. The move marks the first official confirmation of American personnel on the ground since the administration authorized airstrikes targeting terrorist networks in Sokoto on December 25.

Command officials stated that the newly deployed team brings unique capabilities designed to augment the operations Nigerian forces have conducted for several years. While specific details regarding the arrival timeline remain undisclosed the initiative serves as a direct result of recent diplomatic engagements. A bilateral working group previously convened in Abuja involving representatives from eight US federal agencies and the Nigerian National Security Adviser to discuss these shared security objectives.
These collaborative efforts address the recent redesignation of Nigeria as a country of particular concern. The intensified partnership aims to neutralize terrorist threats within the region and builds upon the strategic stance demonstrated by the air operations launched against insurgent enclaves in the Bauni forest of Tangaza Local Government Area.
