Trump Acknowledges Remi Tinubu At Washington, DC

President Donald Trump acknowledged Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, during the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC.

President Trump stated, “We are honored to be joined today by the First Lady of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu, who also happens to serve as a Christian pastor at the largest church in Nigeria, a very respected woman. It’s a great honor. Thank you very much.”

This interaction may help alleviate some tension in Nigeria, particularly following the US President’s designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern last year.

President Trump had previously expressed concern over the insecurity in Nigeria, specifically lamenting the persecution faced by Christians from another prominent religious group. He had warned of intervention if Nigerian leadership failed to implement lasting solutions.

This development had prompted Nigerian President Bola Tinubu to take significant measures, including a reshuffling of the military hierarchy and the appointment of former Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, as Minister of Defense.

The Nigerian government had reportedly engaged foreign lobbyists to help improve Nigeria’s image as a nation that upholds religious tolerance.
