Turji Issues Fresh Threats To Sokoto Residents

Widespread displacement has taken place in eastern Sokoto State as residents evacuate Tidibale and nearby farming communities due to renewed threats from bandit leader Bello Turji. This ultimatum has caused a mass movement of families heading towards Isa, Gidan Hamisu, and adjacent regions in Zamfara State for safety. Local reports indicate that the bandit leader issued these threats to regain control after a period of relative calm, compelling farmers to leave their lands and homes just ahead of the planting season. While some towns in the Shinkafi Local Government Area have reportedly brokered truces for safety, those in Sokoto continue to be at risk of impending violence.

Meanwhile, armed assailants attacked the Otobi Akpa community in the Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, resulting in the deaths of five individuals. Among the deceased was Igbabe Ochi, a former councillor and past legislative candidate. Eyewitnesses stated that suspected armed herdsmen invaded the town in the early morning hours, looted a local shop for food, and killed the occupants. Community leaders confirmed that the attackers used a railway bridge for access and fled when confronted by local youths. This event adds to the recent wave of kidnappings reported in the area.

These declines in security come as the United States government provides crucial military supplies to Nigeria, aiming to support local forces in their fight against terrorism, banditry, and violent crime throughout the country.
