National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu and Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris highlighted these advancements during the plenary session of the Nigeria–United States Joint Working Group held in Abuja. The high-level meeting, aimed at addressing the nation’s specific security-designation status, featured a US delegation led by Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker.
Ribadu noted that the engagement, which marks the third high-level interaction since November, reflects a relationship grounded in trust and shared responsibility. According to the NSA, enhanced intelligence-sharing and closer coordination between the US military and Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters have yielded tangible results. These joint-efforts have directly contributed to the successes recorded by troops under Operation HADIN KAI and Operation FASAN YAMMA, resulting in the neutralization of hundreds of terrorists and the dismantling of critical logistics-hubs.
The officials further commended the US government’s commitment to the timely delivery of military assets, including drone-systems and helicopters, and essential spare parts. Ribadu and Idris emphasized that this security-tie is grounded in mutual respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty while prioritizing accountability and civilian-protection.
Minister Idris added that the partnership aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to declare security-emergencies in vulnerable areas. He assured the public that these bilateral-engagements are problem-solving mechanisms rather than mere compliance-exercises, ensuring sustained deployments to conflict-affected communities.
