Wike Breaks Silence Over Confrontation With Military Officer
Following a recent confrontation with a Nigerian Navy officer over a disputed property in the Gaduwa area of Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has addressed the incident.
The minister affirmed that he will not be intimidated by the military for carrying out his duties and ensuring due diligence in the acquisition and use of land within the FCT. Speaking to journalists at the site of the altercation, he expressed dismay that an individual allegedly in the wrong would resort to using military personnel to intimidate government officials.

He stated his firm resolve not to succumb to any form of blackmail or intimidation. The minister questioned the fairness of such actions, asking what recourse is available to ordinary citizens who do not have military or security connections. He described a situation where government officials performing their duties are confronted by security forces as unacceptable.
Minister Wike confirmed that he has contacted the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Naval Staff regarding the matter, and they have assured him that it will be resolved. He clarified that the FCTA's intention is not to engage in a shootout or cause chaos, but to enforce the law consistently.
He reiterated that the law will be applied equally in all situations, and no one, including any former Chief of Naval Staff, will be permitted to undertake illegal development on government land. The minister insisted that the high ranking military official associated with the property does not possess the necessary documents to rightfully claim ownership.
He expressed disappointment that an individual who has attained such a significant position would resort to intimidation rather than approaching his office to address any problems concerning the property. He emphasized the importance of allowing government officials to perform their jobs without interference.
