IWA: Anyone Who Dismisses Genocide Claims Against Christians In Nigeria Is An Accomplice

The Igbo Women Assembly (IWA) has stated that anyone who disregards the allegations of genocide against Christians in Nigeria is, in fact, complicit. The organization asserts that the murders taking place in various parts of the nation are both intentional and thoroughly documented.

In an official statement from its President, Lolo Nneka Chimezie, the assembly expressed appreciation for former United States President Donald Trump. They acknowledged his decision to redesignate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, which he based on what he described as the systemic persecution of Christians. The IWA also supported President Trump's warning regarding the possible military action against those responsible for the violence.

The assembly believes that the comments made by the former US leader have pressured the Nigerian Government to address atrocities it had previously ignored.

The statement emphasized, “We thank President Donald Trump for highlighting the killing of Christians and indigenous Nigerians. Anyone denying genocidal killings in this country must be complicit.”

Government's Ongoing Silence

The IWA accused the Federal Government of deliberately downplaying the seriousness of attacks carried out by jihadists masquerading as herders until President Trump’s comments rekindled international interest in the issue.

The organization expressed concern over the minimal coverage these killings receive in global media, while local efforts to raise awareness are often dismissed as calls for separatism.

“Mainstream global media seldom report these atrocities. Here, when we raise our voices, we are labeled separatists and the attacks are described as herder-farmer conflicts.”

The assembly challenged detractors to compare the number of churches destroyed with the number of mosques destroyed, declaring that the disparity is significant.

“Individuals are being slaughtered without dignity. Cattle are treated with more respect. These killers take human lives indiscriminately while the government resorts to propaganda.”

Allegations of Government Complicity

The women’s group criticized the government for its defensive response to President Trump’s warning to take action against perpetrators, whom the authorities have previously labeled as foreign herders.

“If they are indeed foreigners, why show concern when another foreign nation seeks to address them?”

The IWA further argued that those opposing US intervention should be monitored, warning that they might have links to terrorist groups.

Questions Regarding Nigeria’s Inaction on Christian Violence

The organization condemned what it perceives as governmental hypocrisy, emphasizing the administration’s support for Palestinians globally while ignoring the severe violence inflicted on Christians within its own territory.

It also reproached certain Christian leaders who had been vocally critical of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s government but have remained silent under the present administration.

“These were the same individuals who organized a million-man march against Jonathan. Now, they advocate only for prayer and silence.”

The IWA accused some Christian leaders in the Southwest of prioritizing ethnic loyalty over collective unity.

Reiterates Call for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

The women restated their demand for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). They noted that he had consistently warned about the assaults by armed herders.

“Kanu has committed no offense that justifies his current detention. We urge President Trump to convince the Nigerian Government to free him.”

The IWA concluded by asserting that no responsible nation treats the lives of its citizens with indifference and urged the government to prioritize national security over political concerns.
